This one-of-a-kind hand crafted rug will enhance any room in your home. It can be used as a rug, throw, blanket or wall hanging and it also makes the perfect picnic blanket. This one is a thick weave rug in soft tones and a bold joining feature, beige background with pink, blue and brown contrast. An original statement piece for any home space.
Our frazadas are made from 100% naturally dyed sheep or llama wool. This wool has previously been spun on a drop spindle, before being handwoven, following centuries old traditional methods passed down through generations, using an Andean backstrap loom. Each piece is just under a metre wide so a signature feature of the rugs is the central seam that joins the two textile pieces. This is very skilfully integrated into the design, and is a stamp of authenticity.
We source all our rugs from small mountain villages in the Peruvian Andes, ensuring a fair price is paid to each artisan who will spend several weeks making it. Each design is inspired by the makers natural surroundings. The Andean people have a very close relationship with nature and the beauty and simplicity of their Cosmovision is reflected in everything they do.
In our ever-changing global world it is common for artisan craft to be undervalued, purchasing a genuine piece of textile art helps maintain these ancient traditions thriving.
Due to the handmade process, each piece may have slight imperfections thus creating a truly unique and ultimately authentic item. It's always a joy to discover the originality and peculiarity of each individual piece!!
